Good morning world! If I listen carefully I can hear a distant echo of ‘good morning Mark!’ It makes me feel so much better!

As I look out of my hotel window the broad St Lawrace River is flowing fast with ice drifting down stream and snow blowing every where… Room is quite high and view wonderful…

I am going to whip down for a brief pre breakfast recce…

More later!

The Ice Bear travels… I have come over top Quebec City with Toby Sherborne and Duncan Hamilton to create Ice Bear no.3…

We are being Sponsored by Equiterre and Hotel de Glace, a truely dynamic partnership. What is great fun is that we have on the sculpting team 2 Inuit sculptors Peter and Jaques Boy… they are both carvers of soap stone and specialise in the Polar Bear! They are wonderful people… they have joined the team as true partners, they see and understand the vision and the direction that Ice Bear is taking. I could not have asked for an easier crew.

The ice block arrived in Quebec City last night having been frozen (and beautifully) under the eagle eye of Marc Lacasse from Hotel de Glace… If all Ice Bears could run as smoothly as this then they would become a doddle!

Today we made great progress with the pre carve… tomorrow I plan to try to finish the sculpting ready to launch into the press day and opening on Thursday.

I might add that we did a days sculpting at Hotel de Glace, 1/2 hour North of the City on Sunday… what a creation the hotel is!!!

Almost ready for a much needed glass of bear…

Will post a flip shortly and another tomorrow…

Knackered!

Here we go again… On Saturday Toby Sherborne (Mr Admin) Duncan Hamilton and I whip on over to Quebec City to carve the Canadian Bear. The bear has been sponsored by Equiterre a French Canadian not for profit with very similar aims as Ice Bear… and by Hotel de Glace Canada. The skeleton is already deep frozen and awaiting our attention… oh how exciting it is to be launching again.
Other plans are brewing and brewing fast… Washington DC over Earth Day is a real possibility… and many more… but all again need that sponsorship so finger nails are being nibbled!

More shortly!

As freezing weather crosses the UK I and my team are preparing to create the third Ice Bear… this time in Quebec City Canada. We have partnered up with Equiterre a French Canadian not for profit company with very similar aims and ambitions as Ice Bear. Along with Equiterre we will create an Ice Bear that will travel across Canada hopefully as far as Vancouver to the Winter Olympics where it will in time melt telling its message. What is exciting however is that that is not the only interest in the project… We hope to be at Earth Day in Washington in April, may be in Denver in July and hope to be in New York at some point in between… may be we go on to Mexico for the next climate change conference… who knows but that will be the aim and mission of the Copenhagen skeleton. The London skeleton will be travelling in a different direction with luck… Sydney in August and then on to Hong Kong (we hope) and into China… Ice Bear is on the move.

We will be setting up pages on the site for all these missions as plans turn to reality… so stand by.

I might add that if there is anyone out there who feels that the bears message is require in their part of the world and that they would like to assist… drop us a line and lets see where we go from there.

Stay with us…!

Happy New Year all of you… it is a beautiful day in the SW, lovely crisp sunrise and a bear whose ice is literally hanging on with the frost. We brought the bear here from Trafalgar Square on Christmas Eve still with a fair bit of ice… now it is almost free of ice… the last chunk retreating like a glacier, it will soon leave the bare bones.
