On May 13th 2009, Mark and his guides set off from the remote Baffin Island community of Pond Inlet on the first stage of his mission - to create a piece of art that might encapsulate the beauty and the fragility of the far north. It was an expedition that took them across an extraordinary environment of frozen sea, interspersed with massive blue icebergs that had drifted here after breaking away from the Greenland ice-sheet. After a challenging journey and days of bitter snow storms, the Arctic finally revealed its wild life to them, including the iconic polar bear.
