WHAT PANASONIC DOESPanasonic Europe is renowned for its commitment to securing a healthy future for both the planet and humankind. Our founder, Konosuke Matsushita said Panasonic is about more than technologies as our commitment to "people before products" shows. Our business vision is to "contribute to a ubiquitous networking society that co-exists with the global environment." And being 'green' has been part of our DNA for a long time. Panasonic is pursuing advanced environmental strategies based upon three eco ideals, 'eco ideas'. The eco-initiatives will contribute to the realisation of a sustainable society that lives in harmony with the global environment.

Panasonic's 'eco ideas' strategy comprises:'eco ideas' for Products - Panasonic is committed to producing energy-efficient products that are designed with recycling in mind and made from more environmentally responsible materials. Energy conservation technologies also form a major push within the 'eco ideas' for Products. With plans to launch 20 Superior Green products in Europe in 2010, Panasonic is leading the world for environmentally-friendly products. 'eco ideas' for Manufacturing - Panasonic is committed to reducing CO2 emissions across all manufacturing sites by 300,000 tons. Europe alone has already exceeded the target of a 10% reduction in CO2 emissions (6,000 tons) by March 2010, although production increased. 'eco ideas' for Everybody, Everywhere - Panasonic is committed to spreading environmental activities throughout the world and leads a number of initiatives with WWF and other specific environmental campaigns around the world. The activities are not only directed to NGO partnerships at a local and global level but also include all Panasonic employees to engage in environmental activities in their local communities. In October 2007, Panasonic renewed its commitment to climate change with its global Eco Ideas Strategy. The company has been promoting environmental sustainability management and accelerating its efforts against global warming on a group-wide basis through the three key initiatives: Eco Ideas for Manufacturing, Eco Ideas for Products and Eco Ideas for Everybody, Everywhere. Since then, the company has been accelerating environmental initiatives to achieve the numerical targets declared in the strategy such as the global target to reduce the CO2 emissions of all its manufacturing sites by 300,000 tons by March 2010. This reduction, equivalent to the average emitted by 50,000 European homes every year, has already been achieved one year ahead of schedule, and Panasonic continues to pursue advanced environmental strategies with the aim to live in harmony with the global environment. |
